Arrival

Park anywhere in the car park. There are trollies available for your luggage by the side of the facilities block ahead of you.  The easiest way to get to Sea Drift (marked on the map) is to follow the path down the right-hand side of the play structure, keep following across the first square of chalets, you will then turn right into the second square and Sea Drift is the second chalet on your left.

There is a key box outside by the Chalet number, slide down the cover. The code has been emailed to you in your pre-arrival info but should you forget it, please text 07530 508350 and we will send it to you again.  Please leave a key in the key box when you go out.

You can arrive anytime after 4pm, Please ensure that you depart before 10am. The cleaners will be ready to start promptly at that time.

The beds will be made up and towels provided but please bring your own beach towels.  We will leave tea, milk and sugar out for you on arrival.  The shop on site is not yet open but there is a lovely farm shop at the far end of Widemouth beach that also sells fresh fish.

On-site

The bar will be re-opening on-site in April.  The office and launderette will also be open from April (Edit: please note that the launderette re-opening has been delayed.)

Walking to the beach

There is a beach path from the site (marked on the map), and there is a gate code C2678Z (it’s about a 20-minute walk through fields of sheep, sometimes muddy but nice walk, and no cars.).

The quickest walking route to the beach is to turn right outside the entrance and walk down to the pub-Widemouth Manor (nice pub), there is a sign to Crackington Haven, and next to that a stile leading to a small coastal path that takes you down to the beach-15-minute walk. The only tricky bit is on the road by the pub as it has a sharp bend. It’s a nice walk down the sandy path.

If you drive down to the beach, there are a couple of pay-and-display car parks

The beach is rocky at one end (Black Rock beach – dog-friendly all year round) and sandy (Widemouth Beach – dogs out of season only) at the other.

At the far end of Widemouth Beach there is a short walk over the dunes to the Beach House pub-nice big garden down to the beach. On the opposite side of the road is the Bay View Inn.

TV and Wifi

There is a smart TV, the wifi is Three FA2055, code: 3eB5wdr76555p3c.

There is also a DVD player and lots of games in the cupboard, also some books do feel free to swop yours for mine!

Heating and hot water

There are electric radiators in each room and the hot water is heated by an immersion heater (except for the shower), switch to the right of the cooker. There is an underfloor heater in the bathroom, switch by the bathroom door.  The hot water boiler and the underfloor heater are both on timers. The electric radiators in the rooms need to be switched on and off.  We are trying to be careful with electric and water usage in an effort to reduce our consumption and carbon footprint but obviously want you to be comfortable so any problems please contact Tim.

House Rules

No smoking in the Chalet.

Dogs are of course very welcome but we would rather they didn’t go on the beds or furniture, unless you bring your own bedding or throws.  There is plenty of grass around the bungalow for morning and evening ablutions but please do clear up after you.

Dogs need to be kept on a lead around the site.  Please do not leave your dog unattended in the bungalow for more than 2 hours.

Patio furniture

There is a table on the patio and chairs and a sun umbrella in the big box where you will also find a windshield for use on the beach. The padlock code is the same as the keybox.

Close by

Widemouth beach, Black Rock Beach, Black Rock is dog friendly all year round, Widemouth only outside of the summer months.

There are cafes on Black Rock and Widemouth beaches.  The Beach House pub on Widemouth Beach is lovely as is the Bay View Inn opposite.  Widemouth Manor has a cocktail bar upstairs that looks out over the bay. They are open Monday – Thursday from 5.30pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 12.30 with a carvery on Sunday between 12pm and 5pm. You may need to book.

Bude is a small town with nice shops, a canal and lovely beaches – Summerleaze and Crocklets.  It is a 10 minute drive or a slightly longer, but exhilarating, walk across the cliff tops along the South West Coastal path.  Would recommend Life’s a Beach on Summerleaze and Rosie’s and Crooklets Beach Café on Crooklets although there are other lovely restaurants in Bude – leaflets at Seadrift. There is the amazing Bude Sea Pool with changing facilities on Summerleaze.

There are car parks at Summerleaze and Crooklets, also a car park at the Sainsbury on your way to Crooklets. For other supermarkets, if you turn left out of the site car park, next left at the end of the road, follow the road to a roundabout, turn left at the roundabout and there’s a big Morrison’s, Lidl and B&M. It’s about a 10-minute drive. These big shops are on the road that leads back down to Bude.

There is a swimming pool and leisure centre opposite Morrison’s.

Further afield

Padstow is about a 30-minute drive away, with Rick Steins Fish and chips … and usually a queue! There are also some nice independent shops.  Padstow gets very busy so go early if you want to park in the car park on the harbour, otherwise there’s a park-and-ride at the top of the hill or you can get the ferry over from Rock.

Tintagel is about 30 minutes along the coast with lots of walking opportunities around the castle/island.

Head north into Devon to visit Hartland or Clovelly (15 minutes to get there by car) which is well worth a visit, it’s a steep walk down but you can get a ride in a minivan back up.

Check the entrance price and if you need to book first. Lovely, lovely cafes and old houses built into the steep cobbled hill, leading down to the harbour.

There are lots of other attractions close by (lots of leaflets in the bungalow) Sometimes worth booking in advance for discounts.

Port Issac and Boscastle are about a 30-minute drive and worth a visit. Boscastle has a famous Witch museum (very small museum!)

One of our favourites is the Eden Project (an hour away) go early.. Lovely for gardeners and a whole day out, good for rainy days as undercover inside the domes.

Tick list for when you leave

1. Please empty bins. There are waste and recycle bins on site located in the top right corner of the car park. Please make sure there is no food left in the fridge/freezer.

2. Please check none of the taps are dripping, and the heating and water heater are turned off.  Double-check that you have all your belongings! 🙂

3. Lock the door and leave the key in the key box.

I hope you have a wonderful time!
